904L stainless steel sheets and plates are manufactured using a super austenitic alloy with 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, 1–2% copper, and low carbon content. This special alloy presents excellent pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking resistance, particularly for sulfuric acid and chloride-containing environments. Mechanically, 904L sheets and plates possess tensile strength ranging from 490–710 MPa and yield strength of about 220 MPa, in addition to good ductility and weldability. Their toughness and corrosion resistance make them suitable for manufacturing apparatus for use in aggressive chemicals.
