440B stainless steel plates and sheets consist of a martensitic stainless steel alloy with about 16–18% chromium and 0.60–0.75% carbon. Such a composition enables the material to be heat treated to develop high hardness, preferably in the range 55 HRC, along with good corrosion resistance and toughness. With tensile strength varying from 650 to 850 MPa, 440B has high wear resistance and dimensional stability and is used for parts where friction and mechanical wear are encountered.
