Stainless Steel 304 and 304L are general-purpose alloys with a typical composition of 18.0–20.0% chromium and 8.0–10.5% nickel and low carbon. The lower carbon in 304L improves formability and intergranular corrosion resistance, suited for severe applications. Both grades have superior corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, and durability with good formability and ease of fabricability. They remain strong even at higher temperatures, resisting oxidation well. Due to these characteristics, 304/304L is a highly dependable stainless steel material with great performance across a broad range of industrial uses.
