Stainless Steel 316/316L plates and sheets consist of iron predominantly, with 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, for increased corrosion resistance. The carbon concentration in 316L is less than that of 316, enhancing weldability. Mechanically, they possess high tensile strength (515 MPa min), yield strength (205 MPa min), and good elongation (40% approx.). They possess better resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and high-temperature conditions, thus being well-suited for challenging uses. The combination of strength, formability, and corrosion resistance places the alloy among the most versatile stainless steels in the market.
