Stainless steel 904L flanges are produced using a super austenitic alloy of 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, 1–2% copper, and reduced carbon content. This composition gives outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. The alloy provides a tensile strength of 490–710 MPa and yield strength of approximately 220 MPa. 904L also gives outstanding formability, weldability, and toughness, even in adverse chemical environments. Its higher mechanical and chemical properties make it a first choice for flanges for corrosive and high-pressure systems.
