SS 202 is an economical austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel that provides moderate corrosion resistance, good strength, and high formability. Stainless Steel 202 flanges contain around 17–19% chromium, 4–6% nickel, and 7.5–10% manganese with trace amounts of carbon and nitrogen. They have tensile strength of ~515 MPa, yield strength ~275 MPa, and elongation of ~40%, which varies with processing. SS 202 has poorer corrosion resistance compared to SS 304 but is good for mild, non-aggressive conditions. It is not magnetic in the annealed state and is ferromagnetic upon cold working. The alloy possesses good weldability, cold-forming properties, and oxidation resistance to modest temperatures.
