316L stainless steel pipes are a low-carbon variant of the 316 grade, consisting of mostly iron with 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum. The lower content of carbon improves intergranular corrosion resistance following welding, and hence the pipes are suitable for welded constructions. They have good mechanical properties with tensile strength of approximately 485 MPa and a yield strength of about 170 MPa.
