305 pipes have about 17–19% chromium, 10.5–13% nickel, and barely any carbon (less than 0.12%). That nickel’s the secret sauce—makes it way easier to form and less of a pain to work with if you’re doing deep drawing. We’re talking tensile strength around 515 MPa and yield strength about 205 MPa, so it’s no lightweight. Oh, and it stretches too—elongation of 40% or more. Corrosion resistance? Pretty much on par with 304, maybe a hair better in some spots. All in all, if you need something that can take a beating and keep on ticking, 305’s a solid pick.
