440B stainless steel bolts consist of a martensitic stainless steel alloy with about 16–18% chromium and 0.60–0.75% carbon content. Such composition enables them to be heat treated to attain hardness values of around 55 HRC, having high tensile strength of generally between 650 and 850 MPa. They have good wear resistance with good toughness and fair corrosion resistance, making them appropriate where mechanical toughness is required.
