ER420 contains about 12 to 14% chromium and approximately 0.3% carbon. The weld metal achieves high hardness, ranging from 45 to 55 HRC, when air-cooled and tempered. It provides a tensile strength of around 650 to 750 MPa and shows good resistance to scaling and wear. The high carbon and chromium content makes it suitable for hard-facing and fabricating martensitic stainless components.
