Stainless steel 446 stud bolts consist of a ferritic alloy of 23–27% chromium, low carbon, trace elements molybdenum and silicon. This alloy has outstanding oxidation, sulfidation, and scaling resistance at high temperatures up to 1100°C. At the mechanical level, 446 stud bolts have moderate tensile strength of about 485–620 MPa and good creep strength under high-temperature stress. Though not as formable as austenitic grades, they have excellent thermal fatigue resistance and are non-hardenable by heat treatment, being a good option for stable, long-term service.
